What is the purpose of this event?

We are taking advantage of CRASIQ’s annual forum to create a space for key actors in frontline and community healthcare in Quebec to share their concerns about their ability to provide equitable and culturally-safe health services to Indigenous peoples in their communities, as well as discuss tools that could strengthen their capacity to do . These discussions will help in identifying elements to be included in an action toolkit for health professionals and managers who wish to concretely fight against systemic anti-Indigenous racism and provide equitable and culturally-safe primary and community health care.

Who can participate?

Nurses, healthcare professionals, health service managers, representatives from Indigenous institutions and institutions within the Quebec healthcare system, Indigenous community-relations and service navigators, researchers, students, or anyone who wishes to share their experience and expertise on how to address systemic racism against Indigenous people in health care, as well as promote cultural safety, decolonization of health services and health equity are more than welcome to participate!

What will participants be invited to do?

  • Share their needs and concerns about their ability to provide equitable health care and services to Indigenous peoples;
  • Present existing tools to fight against anti-Indigenous racism and provide equitable and culturally-safe health services, and comment on the disparities between these tools’ uses;
  • Brainstorm potential tools that are currently missing in Canada, and discuss relevant tools that exist outside of Quebec that could be transferred to Quebec;
  • Reflect on the structural barriers to the implementation of action toolkits within primary and community heatlhcare institutions in Quebec.

What’s next?

A report including summary illustrations will be produced after the Forum and shared with the participants. In addition, the CRASIQ team and its partners will initiate the co-construction of the aforementioned action toolkit to address systemic anti-Indigenous racism and provide culturally-safe primary and community health care in Quebec.
